Today, we’re excited to share that Dropbox plans to acquire Tigris.

For our customers, the most important thing to know is that nothing about your experience changes. You’ll keep the same product, the same S3-compatible API, the same pricing with zero egress fees, and the same team and support channels you work with today. Tigris continues to run alongside whichever clouds and compute platforms you choose.

We started Tigris to give developers a storage layer that works the way they build: one S3-compatible endpoint for their application data, wherever their compute runs. AI has only made that idea more important. Compute keeps moving across clouds and providers, and the storage layer is what stays constant. Our years running storage infrastructure at scale helped us build a product customers could depend on, and those customers have shaped it ever since: AI builders generating images and video and working with model artifacts, and the platforms other developers build and run their software on.

Dropbox has operated storage at massive scale for nearly two decades, and shares our conviction that applications need a consistent home for their data as AI reshapes how they are built. Together, we would scale Tigris to meet the demand our customers keep bringing us and deliver powerful new capabilities.

## Why Dropbox[](#why-dropbox "Direct link to Why Dropbox")

With Dropbox’s resources and expertise, we’d be better positioned to plan for growing capacity needs and invest in the service as customer demand evolves. We also want to keep the direct technical collaboration and developer focus that help us understand what to build next.

“The value of AI depends on the content and context it can work with,” said Ashraf Alkarmi, co-CEO of Dropbox. “We’re bringing AI to the work people already keep in Dropbox and extending our storage expertise to companies building AI applications. Across both, our goal is to give customers the freedom to choose how they use AI while keeping control of the content they depend on.”

“AI is driving storage demand at a scale this industry has not seen before. Meeting it takes massive scale and a conviction we share with Dropbox: that customers should have the flexibility to run their compute wherever it serves them best, with a product built for developers and agents alike,” said Ovais Tariq, co-founder and CEO of Tigris. “Dropbox brings nearly two decades of operating storage at that scale. We bring the developer-focused product our customers depend on. Together we would meet that demand across the industry, and deliver the capabilities that come next, starting with filesystem and content processing.”

## Object storage first[](#object-storage-first "Direct link to Object storage first")

The planned acquisition would accelerate Dropbox’s infrastructure strategy through DBX Agent Cloud. That strategy starts with standalone object storage that companies and developers can adopt independently.

We want to be clear about what this means for the platforms our customers build on. Tigris is a storage layer, and it will remain one. We built it to work alongside whichever compute environment a developer chooses, from the platforms that run their applications to the providers that supply their GPUs, and that approach continues under Dropbox. The companies that provide those platforms have been partners to Tigris, and we see this as an opportunity to do more with them.

Dropbox plans to add filesystem and content-processing capabilities next. Those capabilities would extend the same storage layer: a filesystem interface onto the data in Tigris, and processing that turns documents, images, audio, and video into AI-ready inputs. We’d love to hear how they could help your team, and we’ll share details as the plans develop.

The broader direction is to give developers a portable foundation for content across models and compute environments, with the flexibility to choose the tools that fit their applications.

## What happens next[](#what-happens-next "Direct link to What happens next")

You can keep using Tigris as you do today, with the same products and services and your usual contacts for support. We’ll keep you informed as the transaction progresses. In the meantime, tell us what you’re building and where you’d like more help. Those conversations will help shape our next steps.

Thank you for the trust you place in Tigris and for helping shape the product. We’re excited about the opportunity ahead and look forward to continuing to build with you.
