# tigris objects purge

Permanently destroy a soft-deleted object version before its retention window expires, freeing its storage immediately.

warning

A purge cannot be undone. The version is not recoverable afterwards, and [`objects restore-deleted`](/docs/cli/objects/restore-deleted/.md) will no longer find it.

**Alias:** `pg`

## Usage[](#usage "Direct link to Usage")

```
tigris objects purge <bucket> [key] --version-id <id>
t3 o pg <bucket> [key] --version-id <id>
```

If the bucket argument contains the full path (e.g. `t3://my-bucket/report.pdf`), the `key` argument can be omitted.

## Examples[](#examples "Direct link to Examples")

```
# Purge one deleted version (prompts for confirmation)
tigris objects purge my-bucket report.pdf --version-id 1787441627070249004
# Skip the prompt in a script
tigris objects purge my-bucket report.pdf \
  --version-id 1787441627070249004 --yes
# Purge every deleted version of one key
tigris objects list-versions my-bucket --prefix report.pdf --deleted \
  --format json \
  | jq -r '.versions[].versionId' \
  | while read -r v; do
      tigris objects purge my-bucket report.pdf --version-id "$v" --yes
    done
```

## Output shape[](#output-shape "Direct link to Output shape")

With `--format json`:

```
{
  "action": "purged",
  "bucket": "my-bucket",
  "key": "report.pdf",
  "versionId": "1787441627070249004"
}
```

## Notes[](#notes "Direct link to Notes")

* `--version-id` is required — a purge always targets one specific version, and there is no "purge the latest" fallback because the object is already gone from the live listing.
* This is not the same as [`objects delete --version-id`](/docs/cli/objects/delete/.md). That hard-deletes a version of a *live* object on a versioned bucket, and is rejected when aimed at a soft-deleted version.
* The command refuses to run unattended without `--yes`, so a piped or scripted invocation fails rather than silently prompting.
* To remove a key that has several deleted versions, purge each one.
